…Instigated by tactileBOSCH..is the umbrella title for a soon to be realized series of exhibitions [+LIVEart events] to open across ‘Diff in Sept / October 2011 We asked the artists to engage with the word ‘MOIST’ ostensibly to rethink and retell their methodologies towards its suggestion then fabricate that idea to a particular location…although primarily based at tactileBOSCH we have several additional locations. namely Wales Millennium Centre / Urban Outfitters + Milgi’s. Showcasing over fifty artists in different locations spanning Cardiff from edge to slippery edge…

MOIST…is descriptive / disturbing / visceral / erotically charged…and DAMP. Whether ab-jective or subjective / in situ or without. Its wetness personified, a reaction to environment. MOIST is about location, not necessarily site specific but site responsive. A damp basement dripping with moisture, mould fornicating on a clammy wall. Its an environment that might make you shriek out loud or run screaming from the room… slime dripping from your fingertips…it could be sexually gratifying, an orgasmic response to a word or situation…a veritable Jacuzzi of the senses or a quagmire of mortal

1. MOIST MOVIES @ Wales Millennium Centre: Opens 15th September [7pm]
tactileBOSCH [with the support of WMC] has curated a series of showreels showcasing experimental art-based films of TEN minutes or less. These filmic nuggets will be projected across the [cavernous] North end of the building [above Cafe Crema] daily for 3 months [changing on a monthly basis]. The films [linear / abstract / erotically charged or simply poetic] evoke a magical strangeness relating to that slow process of putting a little moisture back into MOISTURE rising…

Freya Dooley, a newly minted graduate from Howard Gardens, will work with charcoal, a reem of paper + a life model in situ… Performance artists Caroline Biggs, Iwan Huw Morgan & Nazma Rasool will attempt to add a little damp seatage to the auditorium with the intrepid Zillo taking up the slack…Narrative films will be shown in the theatre from 7pm for one night only…

tactileBOSCH tries a little retail therapy at the Urban Outfitters’ beautiful internal gallery on the 1st floor of the shop on the Hayes…featuring the startling installation work of Geraint Evans, dis-locationist Andrew Cooper, maverick photographer Alice Wilkins, custom hauser Frankfoto, teacup lover Jason Pinder, cardboard connoisseur Sam Aldridge, optional photografika Helene Roberts + Jacqui Caley + LIVE performance from Chris Lledrod Evans + the superb Telegram From the Queen [on the opening night only…]

The central core of MOIST which will, undoubtedly, live up to the Exhibition premise and be the dampest show in town…tactileBOSCH will host a number of experimental instalationists: Shani Rhys James / Andrew Cooper / Geraint Evans + Steve Morgana, video artists: James Richards & Steve Reinke / Alyson Simpkins / Madoc Roberts + Black Engine, photographers: James Dean Diamond + Colleen Ford Ellis, LIVEart performance: Keiron Beckerton + Jo Shapland, soundscapist: Blatnova & conceptual environ-mentalists: The Cabinet Particular who will build the Cathedral for Erotic Misery in an attic near you…a labarynth of mortal intrigue!

As part of Made in Roath tactileBOSCH will inhabit the upstairs floors of MILGI’s:
A family reunion in a single flat on a busy street in a town called Alice domestic derangement involving one very odd family and a house from hell…

The House that Balthus Lived…
Home is not an object, nor merely a building but a diffuse and complex condition that integrates memories and images, desires and fears, the past and the present. It is a set of routines, rituals and personal rhythms. Reflection on the essence of home takes us away from the physical properties of a house into the psychic territories of the mind!

There is an enduring human need to find psychological refuge in familiar places and spaces, but there is no sanctuary to be found here! Through creaking entrance stained with rust, staircases and doorways to nowhere, forgotten corridors, long locked rooms and what is that lurking in the attic? This is domestic dystopia! Rubbing up against clammy walls a woman ferociously kneads on a dusty floor without apparent purpose. The man of the house, no king and no castle, lord of no where, paces the living room floor... Their offspring, eternally grounded, sent supper-less to their rooms, trapped in repetitive acts ..Salensio!

‘Evans’ work searches for the sublime within catastrophe using a wide range of visual art mediums including painting, drawing, print, installation and sculpture. Since graduating from Swansea Metropolitan University in 2009 Evans has exhibited many times in Wales as well as internationally. Evans is a practicing artist on location at Tactile Bosch studios and gallery in Cardiff and is the liaison officer’.

The course is designed to:
• give teachers the confidence to deliver a drawing and mixed media project which will cover some environmental issues and target boys
• enable teachers to make a demonstration piece or pieces in mixed media to inspire pupils and provide inspiration for individualised learning
• enable you to teach the techniques to whole class groups or particular individuals who are developing personal projects in this direction
• There will be the chance to speak to heads of art and art teachers from other centres
• Allow teachers to share good practice leading to more effective art teaching

Geraint Evans ‘Killing Young’

Geraint Evans draws from a childhood memory of shaking a tree until the contents of an unnoticed nest falls to the ground. All eggs were destroyed, revealing newly terminated chick foetus’. This work explores the catastrophes that destroy childhood innocence and unveil ones mortality; a sublime experience that stays with us forever. Evans is a voyeur of his memory, plucking this scene from within to capture and hold this moment of learning, consequence, power and helplessness.

‘Pop Up-Mock Up’ – ‘Outside Inside’ will take place at the A1gallery in Edinburgh continuing a series of projects that bring together recent work by a selection of artists who have exhibited at tactileBOSCH over the last few years. The artists range from the newly ‘qualified’ to those with a more established reputation. Representing a diversity of mediums, approaches and subject matter [an integral ethos of tactileBOSCH]. Ultimately it will be up to the audience to discover and interpret points of cohesion and points of departure between the varying artists work that has evolved out of close working proximity and collaborative spirit that tactileBOSCH promotes.
Pop Up-Mock Up-Outside Inside works as both a showcase to demonstrate the strength and diversity of artwork created by artists linked to the gallery as well as a practical attempt to instigate future collaboration between the two venues and the artists associated with their respective galleries. It will also act as a precursor for TENURE - an ambitious exhibition project that will take place in October at tactileBOSCH Studios, Cardiff - amalgamating work by a wide variety of artists and practices who have exhibited at the gallery as part of its ten year anniversary celebrations.

It is the chaos of destruction that induces the rare personal insignificance necessary for this enlightenment. Uncontrollable disorder demands awe within a never satiated corporate landscape. It needs to be embraced, cherished and preserved.

Painting, Printmaking and Drawing has developed dramatically over the last century as artists continually redefine and reinterpret the three mediums, exercising new approaches to form and subject matter that in turn breeds fresh stylistic interpretation. This continued evolution has meant that these three age-old mediums are as relevant as ever, with there now existing almost as many aesthetic styles and conceptual approaches as there are practitioners.
CITIZEN is the 2010 instalment of tactileBOSCH Gallery & Studios annual painting, print and drawing showcase. The exhibition consist of a broad cross section of the different styles and approaches taken to these age old mediums and is testament to their continued strength, vitality, relevance and diversification.
The Exhibition will exhibit new work by 24 artists from various geographical backgrounds that will act as a cross section of the three mediums, shedding light on current approaches to form and content. CITIZEN will consist of work by emerging artists such as Geraint Evans whose stark mono-prints depict instances of large-scale industrial destruction. Work by established artists such as Sonja Benskin-Mesher whose abstract oil paintings juxtapose flashes of bright pigment against sullen fields of grey. Work by Welsh Based artists such as Freya Dooley whose expressive life-size charcoals on paper drawings portray the nude model. Work by international artists such as Gabriel Leger from France whose diagrammatical drawings on graph paper are permeated with both humour and narrative. Work by those that deal with the mediums in a traditional light such as Catherine Ade whose screen prints depict gloomy figures on a commuter train. Work by those who exploit and extend the mediums definition such as Julie Fagen whose digital prints portray bizarre dream like structural compositions.
Spread over three buildings in an old Victorian Laundry House the galleries vision for CITIZEN is to bring a selection of established international artists to the Welsh capitol as well as provide a platform for emerging local talent to showcase their practice. The vast, naturally lit space is not the traditional white wall gallery venue many of the artists would have imagined when developing their work and will create a new and unique way to view each piece. With the addition of Performance Art and Music on the opening night the gallery will be transformed into a living, breathing environment, capable of producing an innovatory dialogue between artist, curator, gallery and audience.
